How much does the Runner, Roller, or Coaster weigh?
We know this is an important factor for parents, so here's the facts of the matter:
- Runner 10 - 8 lbs
- Runner 12 - 10 lbs
- Coaster 12 - 14 lbs
- Coaster 14 - 16 lbs
- Roller 14 - 15 lbs
- Coaster 16 - 17 lbs
- Roller 16 - 17 lbs
- Roller 20 - 20 lbs
What is the difference between the Roller and Coaster?
Simple! Brakes.
Our Coaster bikes are designed around coaster brake hubs that stop when you pedal backwards. This type of brake is great for younger riders, who may have trouble relying on hand strength to pull traditional hand brakes.
If your young rider is confident pulling hand brakes, our Roller series bikes come stock with front and rear hand brakes and will pedal backwards just like an adult's bicycle. These bikes are a great way to build bike handling skills from a young age.
Can a Coaster become a Roller?
Adding or removing a coaster brake is not something kits are available for. Doing so would require a new rear wheel and possibly the addition of hand brakes to comply with your local road safety laws.
